COMPACT JET LOOP REACTOR for
HIGH RATE ACTIVATED SLUDGE WASTEWATER TREATMENT Activated Sludge Process
Originally developed for the treatment of sewage, the activated sludge process today is the best method available for achieving very high quality treatment
for a variety of industrial effluents. It is applied extensively for the secondary treatment of effluents after primary treatment in anaerobic reactors. ACTIVATED SLUDGE COSTS
♦ ENERGY COST
♦ OPERATING COST
♦ MAINTENANCE COST
♦ CAPITAL COST
The success of the the activated sludge process depends critically on the ability to maintain actively a large mass of micro-organisms in the activated sludge reactor.
This requires essentially two features.
1. The ability to provide oxygen to micro-organisms in proportion to their activity
2. The ability to create large mass of micro-organisms by separation and recycling from treated effluent. Conventional or High-rate activated sludge?
The high-rate activated sludge system reduces the size of the reactor by enabling higher BOD input for the same sludge quantity. In conventional systems this will lead to instability because of poor sludge setting character and lack of oxygen. The well controlled hydrodynamic condition in the jet loop reactor enables uniform oxygenation and good settling properties for the sludge.
The jet loop reactor
The jet loop reactor consists of a tower reactor with an a self-aspirated jet aerator . The mixed liquor is circulated through the jet by means of a high efficiency pump. Air is drawn through the specially designed jet and dispersed effectively in the intense turbulence at the jet. It is then carried through the reactor in loop flow set up by the action of the draft tube. The turbulence breaks up sludge flocs thus Enhancing oxygen transfer.
JET LOOP REACTOR COMBINED WITH MEMBRANE SEPARATION OF SLUDGE
The jet loop reactor can be combined with cross-flow membrane technology for sludge separation and retention. These units do not require a secondary settler for sludge separation.
The combined advantages result in ULTRA COMPACT WASTEWATER TREATMENT UNIT producing RECYCLE QUALITY WATER.
The jet loop reactor has sufficient oxygen transfer capacity and efficiency at high MLSS concentration to enable operation with membrane separation units.
